Which speedplay cleats do i have

The Standard Tension Bike Cleat is dimpled and comes with an integrated cleat surround for an increased aero advantage. It's a race-level cleat built to handle the demands of the most powerful riders. The Easy Tension Bike Cleat has a light-action spring for easier pedal engagement, offering a stable and secure platform for all-day riding comfort.

The integrated, rubberized covers stay on the cleats while you are riding. When walking, the covers improve traction and protect the cleats from wear. My Speedplay Xs are super easy to clip in and out of and the float feels buttery smooth. They require noticeably more force to clip in and click out of. I felt like I had to place more of my weight onto the pedal to clip in. Simply statements of fact based on comparison to my old Speedplay X pedals.

To avoid mixing them up with the Standard Tension cleat, the Easy Tension cleat is gray. The Easy Tension cleats ship with the Comp, but are also available separately and I was able to try them for comparison. The difference between the two cleats was noticeable. Much less effort was required for both entry and exit with the Easy Tension cleat.

I was still firmly attached to the pedals with the Easy Tension cleats and in no fear of easily clipping out by accident. From an actual pedaling standpoint, the new Wahoo Speedplay pedals felt exactly the same as my old Speedplay X2 pedals.

What Wahoo have managed to do is take an already excellent existing product with a proven track record, update it to make it new, and yet keep it familiar. Wahoo indeed! I live in Arlington, VA with my wife my favorite riding partner , my daughter who can beat me all the time when we play golf, but at least I'm still faster on a bike , and our dog who is always there to greet me when I get home from a ride. At the Interbike trade show, a little company called MetriGear showed a set of prototype power meter pedals built into the Speedplay platform.

MetriGear was acquired by Garmin in , and the technology eventually became the Garmin Vector. Love Speedplay pedals? Selene Yeager and I both got the new Speedplay pedals to check out—we both run Speedplay on the road and are very familiar with the system—and we both had the same reaction after riding the new pedals.

So, I put in 20 some miles on the Speedplays. And they felt just like Speedplays! I literally have no other feedback. The previous owner, Richard Bryne, spent 30 years refining the reversed retention system that made Speedplay, Speedplay. What was Wahoo going to do—buy a brand known for a signature technology and throw that tech away?

I especially appreciate this in urban environments with a lot of stopping and starting at lights before you get out to open roads. The super-low stack height is really nice too.

Another great thing about Speedplay is the float. Left and right side float are independently adjustable, as are inboard and outboard float. So if you have some wonky anatomy, or are just really particular, Speedplay offers customization not found anywhere else. And nothing Wahoo did addresses the biggest drawback of the Speedplay system—its performance in anything but ideal conditions. This is why I put my Speedplay pedals away from late fall to late spring. The ultra-light Nano is the weight-weenie option with Ti spindles. The Speedplay Aero is single-sided. The pedal forms a smooth surface with the aero cleat. The cleat and adaptor plate form a smooth bump, too. How are Speedplay pedals different? The new Wahoo Speedplay pedals are closely related but subtly different to their predecessors right. Wahoo has dropped the spanner flats in favour of hex key spindles.

The old Zero had a grease port at the end of the pedal body where the screw threads in. Matthew Loveridge Social networks. Daily Deals.
