When do i drop the dreamfeed

Here are a few scenarios for when the dream feed might not be the right fit, and I would actually recommend dropping it:. For example, I spoke with a new mom last month who had a two-month-old. This baby slept from 7pm until am. She learned of the dream feed and decided to try it.

The thought of the baby doing a 7. Ideally, this meant the baby would eat at pm and then sleep until am. Well, for some it works like that. After trying it for six nights, her baby was still consistently waking at am just like before even though he was just fed 4.

In this case, my advice was to drop the dream feed. Your goal is to provide one more feeding before you go to bed.

So take him out of the crib or bassinet about hours after the bedtime feeding and offer another full feeding. If she needs a diaper change, do it. If he will take a good feeding while still being swaddled, keep him swaddled. If he needs to be unswaddled to eat well, unswaddle him. Keep your lights low and keep the stimulation to a minimum. Therefore, most reflux babies are better off waiting until they are hungry to feed, and so you would most likely not wake them to fill their tummy with milk as they will sleep better without it!

Assuming your baby is feeding well throughout the day time and of course this is easier to tell when your baby is on a bottle, when your baby is on the breast it is a little more tricky to work out , then they are likely to be able to go through the night with one feed by around 12 weeks of age, or 5.

This will not happen though if they are unable to fall asleep on their own, or do not have established day time naps causing them not to be overtired come bedtime. A routine for a baby of 12 weeks might look something like: 7am Wake and Feed Playtime 8. Dropping the dreamfeed really depends on the individual baby and as a rule of thumb, once your baby is on three solid meals whether than is at 4 months or 6 months , they are able to drop the dreamfeed and this can be done by gradually moving the time earlier by 15 minutes until you are at 9pm and then dropping the feed all together.

Or by reducing the amount you are giving them, or time in minutes of feeding if it is a breastfeed. I breastfed my babies, so to decrease it means my body adjusted to the amount eaten slowly. But again, Brinley needed to drop the dreamfeed because it was interfering with her night sleep. She dropped it cold turkey. You could even do You might also need to increase ounces at other feedings of the day. Dropping the dreamfeed can be scary.

If you are considering it, then you most likely have a baby sleeping really well at night. No one wants to mess that up! Vote count: 9. No votes so far! Be the first to rate this post.
